Juliette Aristides Interview

Click Here to Listen to this Episode Right Now.

Interview: Juliette Aristides is an artist and the founder of the Classical Atelier Program at Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, Washington. She has taught there for the past six years and also gives workshops across the country. Her own work can be seen at John Pence Gallery in San Francisco. Juliette recently published a book on the training methods for drawing at traditional ateliers called Classical Drawing Atelier: A Contemporary Guide to Traditional Studio Practice.

In addition to the material in this interview, Sherry Ross also wrote a review of the book on the ARC site.

The teachers that Juliette mentioned included Myron Barnstone, Richard Lack, and Nelson Shanks. Juliette also mentioned a book titled The Force of Visual Perception by Rudolph Arnheim. I was unable to locate that book though I did find two others by the same author: Art and Visual Perception: A Psychology of the Creative Eye and Visual Thinking.
